OUTDOORSMEN DEMOGRAPHICS

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, in partnership with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, produced a report because they rightfully believe that when state and federal decision-makers are faced with important decisions on wildlife management and sportsmen’s issues, they need to be aware of the economic clout of hunters and anglers and their strength as a constituency.

Sportsmen get wide acknowledgement as the major source of funds for fish and wildlife conservation but tend to get little recognition as an economic force through the money they spend in pursuit of their pastime. You may be surprised at how much impact they have on all sectors of the economy-from small towns across our country to the bottom-line of Fortune 500 companies. These statistics show in compelling terms that hunting and fishing are not just leisure activities, but major contributors to the economy.

Perhaps the most important message is that sportsmen are a constituency to be reckoned with. Their numbers rival, and often outperform, industries and organizations that are thought to have more influence. The bottom line-hunting and fishing are woven into the fabric of both the American culture and economy.
