Proverbs 3:5,6 February, 2007

Message from Clay
I am very excited about 2007 and the wonderful opportunities that have been laid before me. This year, I am following my dream with a renewed passion and purpose. The results so far have been unbelievable. I encourage each of you to pursue your dreams with a passion and purpose too and see what can be achieved. Remember, if I can you can.
January’s Recap
Clay started the New Year in Macon, Mississippi, with speeches at the Calvary Baptist Church on January 6-7. On January 12th Clay spoke at a Sportman’s Banquet in Union, South Carolina, followed by a speech to a youth group in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on January 14th. Clay then began preparing for the FLW Series tournament at Lake Okeechobee in Florida. Clay finished the first two days in the top 90 before finishing 121 out of 200. This was Clay’s best finish to date at the elite level and a great way to start the year.
February’s Outlook
February will be a busy month for Clay. Clay will start the month in Atlanta, Georgia where he will participate in the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Fisherama and Turkeyrama. He will be at the show on Friday and Sunday. On Saturday, February 3rd, Clay will make a quick side trip from the show to travel to Greenwell Springs Baptist Church near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Clay will then travel to Tennessee to pick up his new Ranger boat. On Tuesday, February 6th, Clay will travel to Monroe, Louisiana to a photo shoot for the cover of his biography. On February 7th, Clay will travel to Texas to begin his practice for the first FLW Tour stop on Lake Travis. On February 11-12, Clay will be in Bismarck, North Dakota to speak at the Bismarck Tribune’s Sport Show and at New Song Church. Clay will then travel back to Austin, Texas, to continue his preparations for the FLW tournament which will take place February 15-18. Clay will then return to Alabama. On Wednesday, February 21st, Clay will take Brian out for a day of fishing. Brian was last year’s winner of a day of fishing with Clay through the qnawithclay promotion. On February 22nd, Clay will be investigating the possibility of modifying a vehicle for him to drive on the road. Watch out world!! On Friday, February 23rd, Clay will be at the Classic in Birmingham, hopefully, signing copies of his biography (it still looks like it will be ready in time). That evening, Clay will be speaking at Liberty Baptist Church for a Sportsman’s Banquet. Clay will be back at the Classic on Saturday for more book signings before traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, for another speech for a wild game dinner. On Sunday, February 25th, Clay will be back for the conclusion of the Classic and more book signings. When Clay’s book is officially released, it will be available for purchase on his website (www.claydyerfishing.com), so check there for details after the Classic. After the Classic, Clay will then enjoy a couple of days at home before beginning March with another speaking engagement.
Question and Answer with Clay
Q. With your busy schedule, how do you find time to put God’s word in your life daily?
A. I always keep a Bible with me. I carry a Bible in my boat and in my suitcase. Spending time in God’s word is an essential part of my day, so I make it a priority.
Q. Have you always used open-faced reels? If not, what else have you used?
A. I like a lot of people, started fishing with a Zebco 33 reel before moving to open-faced reels. Lately, I have been honing my skills with a spinning reel as well. It’s not one of my favorite styles of fishing, but I will do what’s necessary to stay competitive. Unfortunately for me, that means throwing a spinning reel from time to time. (ha ha).
Q. What type of devotion do you use that keeps you focused?
A. While I have used various devotions from time to time, my preference is to rely upon my own study of scripture.
If you have a question for Clay, please email it to qnawithclay@smgoutdoors.com and we will make sure it gets submitted to Clay. Needless to say, he will not be able to answer every question. He will, however, attempt to answer three or four representative questions each month.
Clay’s Inspiration for February
There is a young man on our high school football team who is in a tough family situation. The young man is essentially an orphan and has endured a lot in his young life. Despite having every excuse to feel sorry for himself, this young man has risen above his circumstances to lead our team in almost every off season drill and competition.
Clay’s Challenges for February
Clay’s schedule has become incredibly hectic with a lot for him to accomplish in a short amount of time while traveling the country. He would appreciate your support and prayers for his patience, focus, and health as he tries to fulfill his purpose.

C.A.S.T. for Kids
As you know, Clay is the National Spokesperson for C.A.S.T. for kids. The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation was formed in 1991 to join volunteers who love to fish with disabled and disadvantaged children for a day of fishing in the outdoors. C.A.S.T. for kids furthers its mission by increasing awareness of disabled and disadvantaged children in our communities and teaching appreciation for natural resources.
