Message from Clay

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. With fall comes college and high school football, of which I am a huge fan. I enjoy being an assistant coach for the varsity team in my area. This time of year also provides me with a respite from my hectic career, speaking engagements and other obligations and provides an opportunity to enjoy family and friends during the upcoming holiday season. Thanksgiving is near and I encourage each of you, as I will do, to consider your many blessings, opportunities, and the people in your life that have encouraged and supported you.

Remember, if I can you can.

July and August Recap
Clay spent the first part of July at home celebrating the 4th of July. He then traveled to Detroit, Michigan to fish in the FLW Tour on Detroit River/Lake Erie. Out of a field of 200 participants in the FLW Tour, Clay finished 102. This was quite an accomplishment and a milestone in Clay’s career. Following the FLW Tour tournament, Clay returned home for a much needed rest and family vacation. On August 19th he spoke at Youth Sunday at the Antioch Baptist Church in Phil Campbell, Alabama. This engagement was followed by speaking at a Sportsman’s Banquet at the Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover, North Carolina. Clay ended the month of August by speaking at an annual event for Texas Parks & Wildlife in Athens, Texas.

Outlook  for September and October
Clay will start September by fishing n the FLW Series tournament on Lake Champlain in New York State. On September 13th he will speak at a Fisherman’s Banquet at the Taylorville United Methodist Church in Luverne, Alabama. Clay will spend a few days in Seattle, Washington, as the guest of the Seattle Seahawks at the game against Cincinnati. He visited with the team on the field prior to the game. On September 26th Clay will be guest of the Crenshaw County School district, speaking to the students at three schools in the Crenshaw district. In between his participation in the FLW Tour and FLW Series fishing tournaments, Clay is an active supporter of his local high school football team by attending games and acting as an assistant coach. In October Clay will fish in the FLW Series fishing tournament on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Alabama. Following this, on October 18th, he will speak at the First Baptist Church in Hartwell, Georgia, followed by a speaking engagement at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood, South Carolina on October 22nd and 23rd. On October 25th Clay will speak at Walker Freshman High in Walker, Louisiana near Baton Rouge.

Questions and Answers with Clay
Q. What do you like about your Ranger Boat?

A. My Ranger is the mot comfortable boat I have ridden in or fished from. It has many great qualities: it is so safe, durable, stable, has exceptional storage and is incredible in the rough water! And……you don’t have to be concerned with Rangers sinking.

Q. What kind of rain gear do you prefer?

A. Personally for colder conditions, I wear the Helly Hanson "heavy duty" guide wear jacket and bibbed overalls. I wear these because at high speeds, water will not penetrate. With the bibs, if your jacket rides up, the bibs still protect you where the pants may not. For warmer conditions I typically just wear the same jacket while driving the boat to keep the rain from stinging. When I’m fishing, I wear Under Armor or Columbia brand shirts. These brands are much cooler and do not sag when they are soaked.

Q. If you use sun block, which brand do you prefer?

A. I definitely use it to protect my skin from the harmful rays that can lead to cancer. I use either Bull Frog spray or Coppertone spray. They are not greasy, stay on well, are not hot, and they do a fantastic job.

Clay's Inspiration for September and October
Aa I go day by day, I constantly remind myself of how blessed I am to be able to do what I love. It takes much more strength and endurance, among many other things, to be able to stay out there and be successful. I found out not long ago that my senior high literature teacher was diagnosed with cancer. This lady has a huge heart and passion for getting the most out of life and for helping and teaches others. She leads the high school’s F.C.S. (Fellowship of Christian Students), and since starting treatments for her cancer, has not missed a day of work other than time off for the treatments. This lady is a real supporter of the entire athletic program and doesn’t miss a game! She constantly cooks meals to feed the varsity football team of which I am an assistant coach and provides the team and coaching staff with sandwiches after every away game. Faced with this disease and the required treatments, I hope I could stand up to it as well as she does. Admiring her strength, character and class, truly makes me want to fight the battles I face that much more. Thank you for all your support and prayers. May God bless you all.
