Message from Clay

We are all faced with obstacles, but as we overcome the obstacles placed before us, we learn very valuable lessons. Focus on the things that you can control, taking one obstacle at a time, and do not hesitate to seek the guidance and help from those around you. You will learn and grow from the experience and be in a position to help someone else. Remember, if I can; you can.

January and February Recap
Clay started his 2008 speaking engagements with a speech at the East Ascension High School in Gonzales, Louisiana. Following the FLW Series tournament on Lake Okeechobee in Florida, Clay traveled to Bismarck, North Dakota for two speaking engagements that included a presentation at New Song Church. A reporter from the Anniston Star interviewed Clay prior to Clay’s appearance and speech at the wild beast feast at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama on February 7th. From January 31st until February 2nd, Clay was in Glendale, Arizona, the site of Super Bowl XLII, assisting the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation in promoting fishing and other outdoor recreation at the Outdoor Recreation Village in Westgate City Center. Clay also autographed copies of his new biography, The View from Down Here is Just Fine, which was written by BassFan’s Scot Laney. Following this, Clay spoke at a wild game dinner for the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina on February 9th. Clay also made a brief appearance on Friday February 22nd at the BassMaster Classic before participating in the FLW Tour tournament on Lake Toho in Kissimmee, Florida

Outlook for March and April
Clay begins the month of March with a wild game dinner at the First Baptist Church in
Americus, GA, followed by another wild game dinner at the Camden First Baptist Church in Camden, Tennessee. Later in March Clay will participate in the FLW Series tournament on Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Alabama on March 26-29. He will then participate in the FLW Tour event at Lewis Smith Lake, in Jasper, Alabama April 3-6. Questions and Answers with Clay

Q. When fishing in a small lake or pond when the bass are mainly feeding on small bream, what would be the best bait to use and how would you present it to them?

A. When bass are feeding on small bream, I love a top water propeller type bait or a square billed crank bait with a wide wobble. Also, some of the new "swim baits" look just like those bream! Catch’em!

Q. What is your favorite lake to fish in the South?

A. I absolutely love Lake Guntersville! It is relatively easy to fish and it is full of monster bass!

If you have a question for Clay, please email it to info@smgoutdoors.com, and we will make sure it is submitted to Clay. Needless to say, he will not be able to answer every question.  He will, however, attempt to answer three or four representative questions each month.

Everyone who submits a question will be entered into a drawing to be held on December 31, 2008, for which the grand prize will be a day of fishing with Clay. The winner will be announced in the January 2009 TeamDyer Newsletter.

Clay’s Inspiration for March and April
During my last tournament I had the opportunity to be paired with a friend of mine. I was not aware before that day that he has a son who is autistic. On the last day of the tournament, my friend, his wife and son and I were watching the final weigh-in. I had an opportunity to observe his son, and it was very moving to see how happy and content he was and how much he was enjoying himself. Watching him you would never be aware of the challenges he faces. The experience was very humbling.

Clay’s Challenges for March and April
I want to thank all of you for all your prayers and thoughts. Please pray that my health and strength will continue to be strong as I continue my busy schedule for 2008.
Thank you and God. Bless you all.
